Adwa Victory Day
“The Battle of Adwa, a significant military clash on March 1, 1896, was a momentous event in Ethiopian history. Under Emperor Menelik II’s leadership, the Ethiopian army emerged victorious against the Italian forces, securing the country’s independence and sovereignty. This triumph bolstered national pride and unity and was a powerful symbol of resistance against colonialism. The battle inspired other African nations to fight for independence and was a preeminent symbol of Pan-Africanism. Its impact was not limited to Africa, as it also profoundly influenced African Americans, serving as a source of pride
and inspiration in their struggle for civil rights and equality.”
